What is infertility?
Infertility is the inability to get pregnant after one year of marriage and intercourse without using contraceptive methods.
10-15% of couples suffer from infertility, among which 40% is the cause of infertility in women, 40% in men and 20% in both couples.
What are the causes of infertility in women?
There is a long list of these causes, which briefly include the following: Ovulation disorders (polycystic ovary syndrome, intense sports activities, diabetes, severe weight loss, obesity, emotional stress), blockage of fallopian tubes due to pelvic surgery and tubes, pelvic inflammatory diseases and endometriosis, congenital abnormalities including disorders of the reproductive system, age over 35 years (decrease in the number of ovarian follicles, decrease in the quality of eggs, increase the probability of diseases in older age, increase the probability of miscarriage), hypothalamus disorders, pituitary gland, Adrenal and thyroid, premature menopause. Among these factors, ovulation problems are the most common cause of infertility in women.
What are the causes of infertility in men?
Several factors are involved in male infertility, which are related to sperm production or transfer problems. The first test that is recommended to clients in this regard is semen analysis. Sperm production may be affected by hormonal causes, chronic diseases, previous surgery, childhood diseases and environmental factors and specific lifestyle. There are different treatment methods for each of the causes mentioned separately.
Some of the more important causes of male infertility are: obstruction of the sperm pathway, sexually transmitted infections, chronic diseases, ejaculation disorder, sperm production disorder, contact with destructive and harmful substances such as copper, cadmium and mercury, ethylene oxide, Vinyl chloride, radioactive materials and radiation, failure of the testicles to descend, injury to the genital area, damage due to cancer and its treatments, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, varicocele, some drugs, smoking and excessive alcohol use.
Methods of treating female infertility
Infertility treatment is done in different ways according to the cause of this problem in women. In cases where some chronic diseases such as diabetes or thyroid have led to the problem of infertility, the doctor will first try to treat the disease and at the same time will take methods to improve fertility. Below are some common methods of infertility treatment: drug therapy, intrauterine sperm insemination or IUI, ectopic fertilization or IVF, microinjection or ICSI, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, GIFT and ZIFT method, egg donation, surrogate.
Treatment methods for male infertilityMale infertility can usually be solved using one or more of the following treatments: using medication to increase sperm count, using antibiotics to eliminate previous infections, using hormonal drugs for hormone therapy. Disorders, wearing soft, cotton and loose underwear, not using long hot showers or saunas, artificial insemination if the number of male sperm is low, IVF IVF, sperm donation when the person does not have sperm.
